Lima runs at a slower pace than many South American capitals; its rhythm is more traditional, and its people reflect a steadier, calmer atmosphere.
 

 
 
Lima is the capital and largest city of Peru. It has an estimated population 7.6 million for the urban area, and 9.2 million for the metropolitan area. Lima was founded by Francisco Pizarro on January 18, 1535, reaching its greatest splendor in the 17th and 18th centuries during which time it came to be the seat of the political and military power represented by the Spanish Viceroyalty of Peru.

Lima is located on the coast overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Lima is known for its amazing historic sites, colonial architecture, beautiful culture, delectable food, colorful festivals and much more.

Major tourist attractions in Lima include its beautiful and elegant Spanish cathedrals, squares, mansions, museums, and the fashionable seaside suburbs of Miraflores and San Isidro, the main areas for shopping, restaurants, cafes and theaters.


Other places in lima worth visiting are Plaza da Armas the main square of downtown Lima, Musea de la Nación, one of the finest and largest museums in Peru and South America, Palacio Torre Tagle, a true masterpiece of Lima's colonial architecture and El Convento de los Descalzos which is a beautiful 16th century Franciscan monastery.
