Rio de Janeiro is the second largest city and former capital of Brazil (in 1960 Brasilia became the capital). It is the cultural center of the country as well as financial, commercial, communication and transport hub. Rio de Janeiro  has one of the world's most beautiful natural harbors. The annual carnival is held 40 days before Easter, so in 2010 the Rio Carnival starts on Saturday 13th February and ends on Fat Tuesday on the 16th February.
